TTP will be eliminated within Six Months: PICSS Webinar


TTP will be no more an entity after six months, government should avoid issuing contradicting statements on Afghanistan. These views were expressed in a webinar organized by an Islamabad-based think tank Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies. The webinar titled “Evolving Situation in Afghanistan: Imperatives for Sustainable Peace was organized in collaboration with Muslim Youth University Islamabad and Professional employers PVT. LTD.
Former Pakistani High Commissioner to India, President PICSS Ambassador (R) Abdul Basit, Lt. Gen (R) Naeem Lodhi, Prof. Dr Tahir Hijazi Vice Chancellor Muslim Youth University, Air Commodore (R) Khalid Iqbal, former consultant (IPRI) and former Assistant Chief of Air Staff of Pakistan Air Force, Mr Khurram Saeed, Dr Syed Muhammad Ali Director (CASS), Dr. Lutufur Rehman Assist. Prof IR Dept Muslim Youth University and Mr. Abdullah Khan Managing Director PICSS addressed the Webinar along with other dignitaries.

While addressing the webinar, Ambassador (R) Abdul Basit emphasized that Pakistan should avoid issuing contradictory statements on Afghanistan. A lot of statements are made but like Kashmir very less is being done. He said that Pakistan issued a statement that a government made by force will not be recognized, then Taliban got the power by force and made all member of previous regime irrelevant. He said that Pakistan should not press for inclusive government. Why should Taliban have Hamid Karzai or Abdullah Abullah in their government.

Lt Former Defence Minister Lt. Gen (R) Naeem Khalid Lodhi have claimed that Tahreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) will be eliminated within six months and gradually Afghan Taliban will hold complete grip over the government. He said Taliban will act against all the militants who would target interests of other governments. He said that the notion that we move from Geo-Politics to Geo-Economics is a misplaced notion as Geo-Strategy, Geo-Politics and Geo-Economic are intertwined and cannot be separately pursued. He said that geo-economics does not function in a vacuum. Ambassador Abdul Basit and other speakers endorsed his views regarding Geo-Economics and Geo-Strategic.

Air Commodore (R) Khalid Iqbal said that Afghanistan inching towards the human crises in terms of economic and medical etc. So, the Pakistan and the International Community should play their role to support Afghanistan. He said further that it was Pakistan wo brought the Taliban on the negotiating table and then was blamed for Afghan crises. He added that the new version of Taliban has come and the longest US war ended now formally. Kabul now a bonded only by International Community, he added.

He expressed that America and India are the only loser in the Afghanistan episode. Prof. Dr Tahir Niazi suggested that skills of Afghan youth should be improved to support economic condition in Afghanistan. While Dr Lutfur Rehman said the Afghan suffered a lot in last forty years. Peace is the absence of physical and structure violence, so lets give them a time to improve their perception.
Other Speakers also raised the question on the disarmament of different groups belonging to Afghanistan and that is a threat for the neighboring SCO countries. At the end, question answer session was conducted and webinar ended with vote of thanks by Dr M Muhammad (HoD) Department of International Relations MY University Islamabad.
