Current wave of suicide attacks in Pakistan started after 9/11. First suicide attack was carried out in 2002. From 2002 to July 2007 only 37 Suicide attacks were recorded but next five months of 2007 witnessed 48 Number of attacks as Lal Masjid Operation in Islamabad was a watershed moment in the history of suicide attacks in Pakistan. Later in December 2007, Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan was formed and militants took over large parts of Swat and South Waziristan and Pakistan saw sudden rise in suicide attacks. 2009 saw highest number of attacks and 2010 saw highest number of fatalities.
Highest number of suicide attacks took place in KPK and Peshawar being most affected district of the country where from 2002 to April 2016, sixty six attacks took place.
