Militant attacks in Pakistan significantly increased during the month of October 2018. An Islamabad based independent think tank Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) in its monthly report revealed that the number of militant attacks and subsequent deaths increased more than two times during last month compared with September 2018. Militants carried out 24 attacks across the country in October 2018 in which 32 people were killed including 16 security forces personnel, nine civilians and seven militants while 49 people were injured including 29 security forces personnel and 17 civilians. It is worth noting that in September 2018, the militants had carried out 10 militant attacks in which 14 people were killed.
In October 2018, majority of the attacks took place in FATA followed by Balochistan and KP. PICSS recorded 10 militant attacks in FATA in which 13 people were killed including five security forces personnel and seven militants while 25 people were injured including 15 security forces personnel and seven civilians.
In Balochistan, militants carried out 8 attacks in which 15 people were killed including 10 security forces personnel and five civilians while 16 people injured out of which 13 were security forces personnel and three civilians.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, 6 militant attacks were witnessed in which three civilians and one security forces personnel was killed while eight people were injured including seven civilians and one security forces personnel.
No militant attack was recorded in Sindh, Punjab, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The month of October also saw a rise in the deaths of security forces personnel. Balochistan was the deadliest province for security forces as 10 out of 16 deaths took place in the province during last month. Most of the security forces deaths during the month were caused by Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
Meanwhile Pakistani security forces conducted at least 13 actions against the militants in four different provinces in which 11 suspected militant militants were arrested and two were killed. Majority of the arrests took place in the province of Punjab from where at least six suspected militants were arrested. One each suspected militant was killed in Balochistan and KP. Two suspected militants were arrested from Sindh and three from KP.
