On Thursday, three security forces actions were reported in which six alleged militants were killed and seven were apprehended. The day witnessed no militant attack in the country till the filling of this report. In the security forces actions, one incident was reported from FATA and two from Sindh. A cross border attack was also reported from Iranian side, however no casualty was reported.
In the major security forces action, reported from Sindh, six militants allegedly involved in target killings of over two dozen law enforcers in the metropolis and the deadly attack on Army Public School in Peshawar were gunned down by police in Karachi. During “heavy exchange of fire,” which lasted an hour, six militants were killed. The police conducted the raid acting on information about the presence of militants belonging to banned outfits such as Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan and Tehreek-i-Taliban (Swati group), said Malir SSP Rao Anwar. In another operation, the Counter Terrorism Department have arrested two sectarian militants. CTD conducted a targeted raid in Ittehad Town and arrested two alleged militants linked with banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi. The held suspects were involved in sectarian killings. One Kalashnikov, two hand grenades and one TT pistol were seized from their custody.
In FATA, during a search operation, five alleged militants belonging to banned militant organization were apprehended in Khyber Agency. Weapons and ammunition have also been recovered during the operation.
At least five motor shells were fired into Pakistan’s territory by Iran’s border guards on Thursday. The shells landed and exploded in the border area of Prom in Panjgur district. “All five mortar shells exploded near a nullah, causing panic among the people of Prom,” officials of the local administration said. The Frontier Corps reached the site and took position, however, the shelling had stopped by then.
