State’s Counter Insurgency Efforts – Notable Gang War Leader Killed

Sabre-rattling between India and Pakistan continues. Tough message came from new Indian Army Chief. Days after taking over as Army Chief of Indian Army, General Bipin Rawat stirred the already murky water of Pakistan and India when he said that “surgical strikes” against Pakistan were meant to deliver a message adding that the possibility of similar action in the future could not be ruled out. The development came a day after Gen Rawat said India’s armed forces would not “shy away from flexing its muscles, if need be” on the borders.Responding to the statement of Indian Army Chief, Pakistan’s Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa rejected Indian claim of surgical strikes adding that “Pakistan’s armed forces are fully geared to no mood to deescalate the situation on Line of Control.

On the other hand, Pakistan is interested to deescalate tensions at Line of Control and improve relations with Indian. The top political and military leadership of the country in a meeting on 3 January in Islamabad has reportedly decided to make fresh peace overtures to India and Afghanistan. The decision to reach out to both Kabul and New Delhi with fresh proposals for resolving differences through dialogue was taken at a high-level civil-military huddle which was chaired by the Prime Minister and was attended by Army chief, DG ISI, Interior Minister, Finance Minister, Advisor to PM on Foreign Affairs, and National Security advisor. It may also be noted that there is strong desire in Pakistan at official level to engage India in a dialogue to resolve all outstanding issues. Importantly, Pakistani pubic is also interested in resumption of dialogue between Pakistan and India to decrease tension and establish peace in Kashmir. In a recent survey on the issue, nearly two third Pakistanis (68%) favour talks between India and Pakistan.
